Construction at City Park in Sevierville
The City of Sevierville Parks and Recreation Department has announced that the walking trail at City Park is under construction and will be closed for several weeks. These improvements will include widening the trail and improving drainage around the park. These improvements are being conducted in house with the cooperation of the Public Works Department.
The new lights for the five-baseball/softball fields will be installed in the next few weeks as well. This construction will cause users of the park to alter their plans. The Parks and Recreation Department asks users of the ball fields to be patient because there will be some inconvenience and these fields will be unplayable during this period. These new lights are state of the art technology and replace the lights that were installed in the 1970’s and 1980’s. All of the above improvements are due to be completed by March 1, 2005.
Rape Defense Class set
The Sevierville Police Department has scheduled a Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) class for women on February 27, 2006, from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. each night, at the Sevierville Civic Center. The class is free of charge and is open to all interested women. The purpose of the class is to develop and enhance self-defense options, so they may become viable considerations to a woman if she is attacked.
The class will be taught by SPD Sgt. Rebecca Cowan and Officer David Finchum, both nationally certified R.A.D. instructors. Each participant will receive a workbook/reference manual, which outlines the entire program for future reference and continuous personal growth.
