Take a train ride in December

published: November 30 2004 12:00 AM updated:: November 30 2004 12:00 AM
SARM to have Santa visit The Southern Appalachia Railway Museum (SARM) is having a train ride on December 11 at 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm, and December 12 at 1 pm and 3 pm. This ride will have the additional Christmas theme with Santa Claus visiting to ask your children what they would like for Christmas. As always, Oak Ridge history buffs and train enthusiasts are welcome, too.  The train departs from the East Tennessee Technology Park (the former K-25 facility) in Oak Ridge and covers a 14-mile route through the Manhattan Project facility and out through rural Roane County. Additionally, snacks and souvenirs will be available in the open-air baggage car. Ticket prices are $13 for adults and $9 for children 12 and under with children 2 and under free. Reservations are available by contacting the Museum at 865-241-2140. Tickets will also be on sale at the boarding site near Highways 58 and 327 west of Oak Ridge before each trip.  Seating for the trip is available in either air-conditioned and heated coaches or a dining car, all restored back to their 1940s appearance. For more information about the Museum and its train rides, please check the SARM website at www.southernappalachia.railway.museum or call 865-241-2140.
