Annie-lots of fun for the music buff

The Bijou Theater is now presenting “Annie.” Directed by Lar’Juanette Williams, “Annie” is the story of an orphan who is adopted by a billionaire. Played by actress Alaina Woodall, Annie has a beautiful voice that keeps the audience’s attention throughout the play. Her dog, Sandy, was played beautifully by Cody, one of the dogs from the Golden Retriever Dog Rescue. The young performers did a great job. We were able to hear their voices well and they did a nice job of moving from set to set. Drey Herron played the part of Miss Hannigan. The veteran actress, singer, dancer and choreographer did a great job on the show. At early dawn she orders the orphans to “Clean this dump!” and continued with “Why any kid would want to be an orphan I just don’t know!” I was really surprised at just how many talented performers there were in the show. As the girls began to sing “It’s a Hard-Knock Life” it was clear that the hours these kids spent practicing had paid off. Travetta Johnson’s work as musical director paid off. The role of Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks went to Autry Davis. Davis is a graduate of the M.F.A. Davis is a graduate of the M.F.A. performance program and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. His acting and musical skills helped to bring the whole show together. It’s hard to pick out people who stood out in this play. It was truly a group effort that fit together like clockwork. Sandy Sullivan, who attended the performance stated, “The show was extremely enjoyable. There was quite a bit of excellent talent in the group. It was well worth the time spent.” As a big fan of the play Annie (I even own the CD) this was my third time seeing the play and I’ve watched the television version several times. This showing was as enjoyable as any I had seen, including the Broadway version. The Bijou Theater pulled the talent together to produce a top-notch show. You should call and get tickets, bring the kids and have a great time. If you weren’t an Annie fan before you go, you will be when you leave. Shows continue through April 27th. For more information on “Annie,” you can call the theater at 522-0832.
