Want to get scared? Check out the Ring

It sounded like just another urban legend, kids talking about videotape filled with horrible images, leading to a phone call foretelling the viewer’s death in exactly seven days. As a newspaper reporter, Rachel Keller was naturally skeptical of the story, until four teenagers all met with mysterious deaths exactly one week after watching just such a tape. Allowing her investigative curiosity to get the better of her, Rachel tracks down the video... and watches it. Now she has just seven days to unravel the mystery of the “Ring.”  I’m not a good one for scary movies, P and PG are my favorite rated movies. In fact this film was rated PG but in my opinion it should have had a stronger rating. I checked out the synopsis before taking my kids and I was glad I did. They stayed at home. While there was little in the drug, sex and foul language category there was plenty in the scary and violent category. The film drew you in and kept my attention throughout the film. It kept you guessing what was going to happen next and keep your mind busy trying to figure things out before they happened. Unfortunately, it wasn’t easy to do. Some parts made absolutely no sense, like why Rachel’s son called her Rachel instead of mom. Other scenes just didn’t add up, especially toward the end. If you want to go to a movie to get scared, you will probably want to go see this one. If you want to go to a good movie, you should leave this behind. It had my husband and me walking out of the theater saying, “What?” This is one flick the teenagers will probably love. But for the old folks like me, check out something more exciting like James Bond. On a scale of one to ten – this one gets a four.
