how’s the change going for you?

Change – that’s apparently what many in the country wanted.

Well, how is that change going for you?

If you’re like most, the change isn’t what you expected.

Right here in our own little Seymour world, the only change we’ve noticed is that there really hasn’t been any change. In other parts of our country, the change has been negative.

No economic upturn – no increase in employment – no subdivision construction startups – no real good news.

I personally think that the government doesn’t know what it’s doing because it appears the blind is leading the blind. We’re fighting a multi-sided war with a blind, inexperienced, inadequate leader.

We the people on the other hand aren’t doing what our constitution has mandated that we do.

VOTE.

Many have voted based on popularity rather than on a rational decision.

Business owners and managers I’ve talked with would never hire anyone in a major controlling capacity without a relevant resume.

By relevant I mean illustrating experience with actual performance in the capacity of their potential position.

When you turn over control of a company, the United States is a country, but it’s also a huge company, the problem is it’s not run like a company. If it was, we would never allow those in control to be reelected given their track records.

Why do we put up with deficit spending? Heck, why do we allow any activity we wouldn’t allow in a major company. We would certainly never allow our company president to hire convicted criminals, liars, tax cheaters or communists.

I guess we’ve forgotten the government is to be run by the people. They are public servants. And we the people have the power. But something has happened to turn the tables and we’ve become the government’s servants.

Here’s what I think happened; GREED.

We have gotten so greedy that many of us are pre-occupied making the almighty dollar, that we’ve forgotten our civic duty, not to mention our neighbors. Most are more familiar with their MySpace electronic friend then our own physical neighbor.

When we hear that our government wants to pass this law or that bill, knowing full well neither would be beneficial for the people, we do nothing about it.

Why not!

Thank God there have been Tea Parties and few local voices that have made their way to the national media.

Seymour, Sevier County and the rest of the country needs to get back to ways that work. Help your neighbor, vote responsibly and take action if you see injustice.

The government can only do what we the people allow them to do. Calling our congressmen and demanding they vote according to the wishes of the community is their job. If they don’t perform their job then we need new employees.

It’s as simple as that. You have the power.
