I’ve talked on several instances about how we are and have been facing tough times.

Many are looking for relief. Some find it in the form of sports.

Thank goodness that it’s nearly full blown football season.

Lot’s of changes this year.

New coaches at both UT and Seymour High.

Businesses have come and gone in our community due to the economic conditions.

Some people have moved to other states looking for work.

Many locals have been forced to move in with other family members to conserve.

The President says it’s going to get worse before it gets better.

When is it going to get better?

Some aren’t feeling the pinch. Those that are, don’t seem to have time to do anything about it because they are busy keeping their heads above water.

I’ve always advocated helping those in need.

Sometimes, all you can do is give them encouragement. That could be just what that person needed to get them through to the next day.

I offered to give our anguishing Seymour Chamber an office free of charge, yet not one of the members responded. Rather than being appreciated, I was scolded that I attached the Chamber and she was offended because the Chamber does more than just have an annual dinner. Being in the newspaper business, I asked ‘what’. I got another stern look.

I only relate is story to demonstrate that some people can’t be helped.

Just like you sometimes can’t change people’s opinion once they have formed one. Be it right or wrong, it’s their opinion and they are going to stick to it.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard, “I don’t know what he (she) has against me because everything they heard from their friend is not true.”

Here’s how the scenario goes; a new neighbor moves in down the street, your friend of many years says, ‘that new family that moved in are real jerks’ and that becomes your opinion, be it right or wrong.

Judging people through others is a terrible mistake. Some people like McDonalds and others wouldn’t have anything to do with them. It’s a matter of personal opinion.

One way of helping people, including yourself, don’t take for granted that your friend’s opinion would necessarily match yours.

Give everyone a chance.
