Can you remember a few years back when we provided the Seymour and surrounding communities a great and professional 4th of July aerial display?
The first two years we were able to hold it at the Seymour Community Park.
What a great location. There was an elevated area to the west of the main park where we set up the fireworks site. A couple thousand people set up their blankets and chairs on the grass fields.
When night fell and the fireworks were started, the attendees got a show they never expected.
The firework display was amazing. From the ground, it appeared like you were actually inside them because it was directly overhead.
A unique and wonderful sight one rarely sees.
Due to the success of the show and the word getting out, the eight acre park became to small to contain the people and their vehicles so we started searching for another location.
Mr. Spurgen, the former owner of the property which the Seymour Flea Market was located on, provided us the 20 plus acres to use for the following year’s event.
It was perfect with easy access, plenty of parking and lots of room. The community businesses stepped up and participated to make for a great event.
Mr. Spurgen sold the property and we were again looking for another adequate location.
To date we have yet to find that spot. But as I understand it, there will be an event of some kind at the 411 Race Track on the 4th.
Many will make their own 4th event with fireworks purchased from local dealers. There is no shortage of tents selling them.
If you know of an opportunity where we can set up our own community 4th of July with room for adequate parking, room for many concessions, pony rides, displays, a stage, places for blankets and chairs and a safe location to set off the fireworks from, please contact me.
I would be honored to continue to head up an annual 4th of July event for our great community.
In the meantime, I’d like to wish everyone a happy and safe 4th of July. And please remember what it really stands for.
