Wife swap brings family together
How is swapping wives going to bring the family together?
When I first saw that title, Swapping Wives, on TV, needless to say, I was a little surprised.
I had no idea the series would be about two wives leaving their family and trading places for two weeks.
For the first week, each visiting wife would follow the rules of the housewife. The second week, the visiting wife could implement her own rules.
The outcome, in most cases was a surprise.
As you would expect, the wives trading places, were as opposite as night and day. The children were as well. And so were the husbands.
Each series lead to major objections to the visiting wives' rules by the families. Many would cry, yell, scream, cuss, (which was bleeped out), and actually fight.
By the end of the show, the visiting wives have won the family over.
The end result was a table discussion of the husbands and wives about how much they learned in two weeks from that event.
It took this introduction to get to my editorial.
Sometimes, one is too close to the forest to see the trees.
We as individuals only see what and who we associate with and forget that it's much larger than that.
The Seymour community needs to pull together as one. We can get much more accomplished by building together rather than tearing down.
However, sometimes it's necessary to tear down in order to rebuild.
The community as a whole can determine what needs to be torn down and rebuilt.
I don't think it's a good idea to let a few people, that don't seem to have the community's best interest at heart, dictate how it should or should not develop.
I could give you many examples, but the comments by some of the commissioners are self-evident.
The important things to think about, in my opinion, is the building up of our community. Building on the positive.
How can we make our community better?
You can't tell me that Seymour has a lock on all the good ideas.
What if we were to hypothetically swap ourselves with another community?
And when we returned after two weeks, do you think we could bring with us some positive ideas that we might have learned from the other communities?
One good idea builds on another. Local knowledge is good, but it's local, limited and restricting.
New ideas generally come from new perspectives.
I hope we can all come together and build a community that we can be proud of.
Like a nice WELCOME TO SEYMOUR sign, or how about a nice COMMUNITY CENTER, or a park that would be proud to entertain visiting teams?
What's your perspective?
I'd like to hear it.

My perspective is that if things like community centers and the proximity of county offices are important, people should look at that BEFORE they move to Seymour. There are plenty of towns that have those things close by. Why not move there? Why come to a place that's done just fine without them (and without the higher taxes they'd require) and take it upon yourself to show us simple local folk what we're supposedly missing out on?!
When I read this I got a horse laugh. Wife swapping has been going on here for years. It is our county pass time, right after gossip!
What would a community center do for the community? just county offices that apparently do not care about the taxpayer anyway. what makes a community a good place to live is the people in it.the people that care about their neighbor and the peolpe who live on their street and or block. the one thing that i have noticed since i moved here that there is not many community events. the one thing that caught my eye about seymour IT IS A NICE FAMILY ORIENTED PLACE. i like the idea of putting a divider between us and sevierville and or the county, it is tough but if it is to be done then the peolple must begin knocking on doors and talking with the people of the community. something that apparently has not been done for a long time.
So...Seymour can come together as a community and INCORPORATE thereby placing a true divider between themselves and the County Government that is trying to change our way of life (as evidenced by recent events reported on by this very publication). Without incorporation, the people of Seymour are handing over control of their lifestyle and community to those who would destry it.
Hey enough with the incorporation BS, Utah has wife swapping and look what that got them, ok?
Seymour residents can't see that incorporation would do great things for the community. The backward mentality is holding Seymour down.
