Are we complainers by intent, or is it in our nature?
I for one think that rain, or anything for that matter, in moderation is great.
There are so many positive things about the rain, that it would take several pages to list them all. So I'll just cover a few and compare them to our community.
After it rains, there is a different smell in the air. Things seem cleaner. Like a fresh start.
Seymour could use a similar "fresh start" with the way we are progressing.
We need a fresh start in those that have an influence or effect on what happens in Seymour.
Why don't we have anything other than a common address that unites Seymour?
Why don't we have at least an annual community event that lasts a weekend?
Something like a local talent contest, or a local Business Open House where most of the businesses have an Open House for the weekend. How about a local horse show, or motorcycle show? There are countless more ideas.
Just pick something and let Seymour become famous for that one thing. In that way, we could all become focused.
Think what that would do for our local economy.
Think about it like a fresh spring rain bringing new air into our community.
On another note.
In my July 10th editorial I put my money where my mouth is by agreeing to pay $100 to anyone that did one thing during the week that in some way benefited the Seymour Community.
All anyone had to do was send me a story about it with all the details and a phone number, with or without pictures, or video.
Deadline was the 25th of July. No one stepped forward to collect the $100. I know there were people that did do things that in one way or another benefited Seymour last week. They could have earned a $100.
Here is another offer.
Send in your suggestions for a big local weekend community event. I'll put a panel together to pick the best event and I'll pay the winner $100.00
To qualify, send your idea, pictures, video, details to Seymour Rocks %The Seymour Herald, PO Box 1228, Seymour Tn 37865 or email to editor@seymourherald.com subject: Seymour Rocks, or US Mail to Seymour Herald, 500 Maryville Hwy, Seymour Tn 37865 by August 31, 2007.

Some people just love to complain. They actually hate it if everything is going smooth. You just can't please them. I am talking about one person in particular, and that it Mike Mgrdichian, of Kodak, Tn. Mike is the most unhappy pitiful shell of a man that I have ever seen. He posts lies all over Topix.net, and begs people to sue Dollywood, and Dixie Stampede. He hates the local government and complains that the people are all crooks. He has a buddy who is editor on topix, and he has my posts removed, as if that would make his posts more real without rebuttals.
Mike is a sad little man, and his mental state is rapidly declining.
I wanted to say that it would be nice to have a community picnic to help our community get stronger. Many communities do that and bond friends that help each other for the rest of their lives. We could have a bake sale or fundraising to help the "Low cost Spay and Neuter Clinic" of Seymour keep their fees low. Thousands of pets are put to sleep every year because no one adopts them, and still pets are not neutered or spayed. We can help if we get together.
An event to bring the community together is a great idea. Seymour is a sleepy little community that fights progress.
