Knox County Schools Nutrition recently held an essay contest for fifth graders in preparation for the TCAP writing assessment.
The essay prompt was designed to mirror the TCAP writing assessment and judged in the same manner in order to give students and extra chance to participate. The prompt asked students to formulate an argument about why a balanced breakfast is an important part of a healthy lifestyle.
Eight winner, four boys and four girls, were selected throughout the Knox County Schools’ district to win a bicycle provided compliments of Knox County Schools Nutrition and a helmet donated by Texas Roadhouse. The classroom teachers of the winning students were also awarded with a digital camera.
To amplify the awards, Corbin Day of South Knoxville Elementary School was surprised by Knox County School officials with a new bicycle and helmet for his accomplishment with his essay March 13.
