The massive cabin fire that swept Sevier County for nearly a full day received the attention of many first responders, most locally was the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department.

At about 4:18 March 17 Sevier County E-911 received a report of a cabin on fire in the Black Bear Ridge Resort, located off Lost Branch Rd. in the Wears Valley community in Sevier County. Upon arrival, emergency crews found one cabin fully involved and the fire spreading to another cabin.

For the next approximately 24 hours, nearly 50 agencies and 300 people battled the fire, which ended up affecting 161 acres and 81 structures.

“Over the two days the fire was worked we sent a total of four trucks and seven personal,” said SVFD Assistant Fire Chief Rob Taylor. “That Sunday we were fully engaged in firefighting. We got released Monday just before the rain started.”
