Lady Eagle ace pitcher Carly Lewis fires a fastball.(The Herald/ Lee Ramsey)

Just like their brothers in baseball, the Seymour Lady Eagle softball team opened their season strong with a 10-0 shutout win over Cocke County at Seymour in a District 2-AAA contest.

Seymour softball coach Dayna Carter, who has been at Seymour for more than 10 years, is building a dynasty with the Lady Eagles.  They have been to the state the last two years with a fourth place finish two years ago.

“I think we were mediocre at best,” said Carter. “(We) had a lot of freshman starters and a lot of nerves.  I was happy with the outcome, but still have a lot of work to do.”
