As part of an eventual plan to help South Knoxville combat the economic woes of the delayed completion of the Henley Street Bridge, State and City officials held a discussion with local business owners March. 4. at Ijams Nature Center.
“There is no guarantee they will complete the bridge by next February, but we need to do something to get immediate assistance” said Knoxville Vice Mayor Nick Pavlis.
Discussed at the meeting were a slew of tax relief programs included sales, property, and businesses taxes.
Knox County Mayor Burchett, who is largely seen as a catalyst for the new-found State interest in South Knoxville’s economic situation, had previously proposed sales tax relief as a desirable solution.
