South-Doyle guard brings the ball up court as Seymour defender trails. (The Herald/ Lee Ramsey)

For the first time in 17 years, the South-Doyle Cherokee boy’s basketball team has made it to the region tournament.

The Cherokees earned their way after winning two district games in the District2-AAA tournament at Seymour High School and finishing fourth.

It was a big accomplishment for the boy’s basketball program at South-Doyle under the leadership of Coach David Scott who came from Jefferson County High before last year.
