Ponte Vedra, Fla., has not been kind to the Tennessee men’s golf team the second time around.
The Vols struggled out of the gate on Sunday. The Tennessee team currently sits in 11th place at the Sawgrass County Club. Led by Australian import Oliver Goss, the Vols shot a 6-over par (294) after the first round of the John Hayt Invitational.
The Volunteers’ bright spot came in the form of Goss. After nine holes, the Australian led the tournament with a 3-under par, nailing an eagle on the eighth hole. Goss ended the day shooting a 2-under par (70) and finishing tied for 10th.
The rest of head coach Jim Kelson’s squad put in solid performances. Rick Lamb, winner of two consecutive tournaments, finished Sunday tied for 38th after shooting a 2-over par (74) with a birdie on the seventh hole.
