A dangerous situation was averted for those in the South Knoxville and Seymour area as a falling tree nearly took out a powerline Jan. 24.

On the segment of Chapman Hwy. just south of Lowe’s, the large tree fell and leaned its weight against a powerline.

Shortly after notification, local responders removed the tree and prevented a situation where a live wire could have stretched across the road way.

It has been determined the tree most likely fell due to softer than normal soil caused by the heavy rainfall and snow of last week.
