As a reaction to recent shooting sprees President Obama issued a sweeping gun control proposal Jan. 16 that has many local politicians and activists concerned about the executive action.

“First and foremost, my thoughts and prayers go out to those around the country that have been victims of the senseless acts of violence the president mentioned in his speech today,” US Congressman Phil Roe (R-TN) said on the day the proposal was unveiled. “I will give the administration’s proposal great thought and careful consideration, but our Second Amendment right is one of our most cherished freedoms and I will not support measures that infringe on our Constitutional right to bear arms.”

Similarly, US Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN) was adamant about protecting the Second Amendment.
