Purchasing music has changed in recent years with the advent of online stores featuring pay-per-click purchasing such as iTunes, which allows customers to buy songs instantly.

Music retail stores such as Disc Exchange located on Chapman Hwy. in South Knoxville has seen a decrease in sales due to the power of instant music downloads for MP3 playing devices not only through online stores but piracy as well.

“Of course it hurts sales but sometimes people will purchase one song from iTunes and then come in here to buy the entire album, which also supports their favorite artists,” said Jennie Ingram, part owner of Disc Exchange. “What really hurts sales is Amazon.com because it is just like another store at their fingertips,”

However, piracy and online stores are not the only reasons sales have been down this year at Disc Exchange.
