The Maryville College men’s basketball team dropped their third challenge in a row with a 79-62 loss to Christopher Newport University in their USA South season opener.
The nationally ranked Captains jumped out to a 15-0 advantage during the first five minutes after tip-off.
A Christian Ford three-pointer put MC on the scoreboard and allowed the Scots to battle back to within six points only three minutes later. CNU’s 56 percent first half shooting allowed them to pull away for a 13 point lead with seven minutes left before intermission.
Key baskets by Christian Ford and Wes Lambert allowed Maryville to cut the deficit to 38-31 at the half.
