With the many local charity organization  that were unable to provide Thanksgiving meals for the needy this year, one South Knoxville church was a shining exception.

Colonial Heights United Methodist Church, located at 6321 Chapman Highway, feed nearly 450 needy families Nov. 22.

“The dinner is the first priority for our church and volunteers including myself,” said dinner organizer Liz Wheeler. “Preparation start at least a month out. We begin with sign-up sheets and have our youth group and young adult groups do a flyer blitz.”

In addition to putting out about 350 flyers for the free event, Wheeler said numerous volunteers are needed to prepare the collective meal.
