Eagle Scout is the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouting program and Seymour has not had a recipient of the honor since 1998.

That all changed Nov. 15 when Seymour’s own John Anderson, 18, received the Eagle Scout designation at a Court of Honor at Wears Valley Ranch.

“This is very exciting,” Anderson said. “I want to thank my father, Bruce Anderson, my mother Linda Anderson, and my Scoutmaster Michael Garner.”

Since the first Boy Scout earned his Eagle award 100 years ago in 1912, the distinction has been earned by more than two million young men. Requirements include earning at least 21 merit badges and demonstrating ideals of service and leadership, including organizing and leading an extensive service project.
