With all of the national election attention focused on President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney, most voters haven’t had the chance to be introduced to the slew of alternative candidates seeking the office. And while Libertarian Gary Johnson may be polling the highest of the non-major party candidates, a man from Sevier County is seeking the Presidency in hopes of expanding the influence of a newly created political party.

American Third Position Presidential Candidate Merlin Miller said he chose to run because both the Republican and Democratic parties are controlled by special interest groups.

“There is very little effective difference between Romney and Obama,” he said. “It doesn’t matter if the President is a Democrat or a Republican because there is no substantial change. It is a staged conflict. They are both puppets of the global elite.”

Much of Miller’s platform is closely related to Paleoconsevatism which emphasizes tradition, limited government, anti-corporatism, anti-federalism, constitutionality, and non-interventionist foreign policy.

As part of his campaign, key tenants Miller has emphasized are liberty, sovereignty, identity, peace, justice, and truth.
