A small airplane carrying one pilot and one passenger made a crash landing just miles away from Seymour Oct. 16.
Blount County Sheriff James Lee Berrong said the Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of the downed airplane at about 11:15 a.m. at the Smoky Mountain Speedway located at 809 Brickmill Rd, Maryville, TN.
The two men onboard the Cessna Model 182 were not injured, and were out of the airplane when deputies arrived on the scene.
The pilot of the airplane, Nicholas P. Lyons, 33, of Centralia, Illinois, told deputies upon landing the airplane in a field behind the racetrack, he was unable to get to aircraft stop.
