When most people think about the educational system subjects such as Math, Reading, and History are often coupled with numerous sports, but with a culturally based music class many students at Seymour Primary School are singing praises of the experience.
Jussara Horton, who in her second year teaching music at SPS, said she approaches education with an emphasis on culture.
“I grew up in Brazil so I am always interested in multicultural aspects,” she said. “There is no doubt that music in the universal language. You don’t have to understand the lyrics to get the feeling of the songs.”
To emphasize cultural exploration through music Horton teaches students traditional songs from Brazil, France, Germany and various African countries.
