With tourism being the largest industry in Sevier County, much of the economy is dependent of the financial security of others.
Luckily, Sevierville, and Sevier county as a whole, has seen a recent increase in this major industry as compared from January through July 2011 to this year’s data.
“Currently in Sevierville, lodging tax is up 20.4 percent year to date over this time last year,” said Sevierville Chamber of Commerce Marketing Director Amanda Marr. “Sevierville’s tourism has not experienced the downturn in recent years that many other destinations have. Our lodging tax numbers have remained steady or increased overall each year.”
However, the increase in tourism itself doesn’t necessarily mean more money is being spent in Sevier County.
