Anthony Richards, 26, on trial for murdering Derek Ogle, 27, pled guilty to the charge of second degree murder Sept. 11.
Richards was originally charged with first degree murder when he fatally stabbed Ogle last year. The Gatlinburg Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 call on May 10, 2011 about a stabbing when they arrived and found Ogle.
Sevier County Circuit Court Judge Richard R. Vance sentenced Richards to 20 years in prison.
District Attorney General James B. Dunn announced Richards’ plea and Vance’s ruling. He also thanked Detective Tim Williams of the Gatlinburg Police Department and all other officers that assisted in the investigation, as well as the Gatlinburg Fire Department, Gatlinburg Emergency Medical Service and other cooperating witnesses.
