After Republicans held their national convention and crowned Mitt Romney the major party challenger to President Barack Obama, Democrats held a similar gathering of their own a week later and both Sevier and Knox County Democrats are pleased with the process.

“The enthusiasm at the DNC was electrifying,” said Chairman of the Sevier County Democrats Mike Fitzgibbons. “Supporters of President Obama are fired up and hitting the pavement running in the same grassroots organizing we saw in 2008.”

Gloria Johnson, chair for Knox County Democrats, was at the convention, and had similar sentiments regarding her party.

“Democrats are more united than ever, and growing,” she said. “There are a lot of disenchanted Republicans joining up. People who live in the real world are fed up with the anti-woman, anti-senior and pro-outsourcing policies of Republicans.”
