As a prescription abuse problem continues to grow in the area, local authorities are working to help eliminate the problem in Seymour.

Dr. Jerome A. Sherard, 58, was arrested Sept. 6 in Seymour and charged with conspiring to illegally distribute and dispense several controlled substances, including oxycodone, methadone, morphine, hydrocodone (Vicoden), and alprazolam (Xanax).

Sherard operated his own medical practice under several names including, Sherard Clinic, Sherard Pediatric Clinic, Sherard Family Clinic, Sherard Medical Center, Sherard General Practice and Pain Management Clinic, and Skyview Medical Center of Chattanooga, from at least September 2009 through June 2012.

The Press Release from United States Attorney William C. Killian stated that Sherard was also connected with operating Skyview Medical Center located at 11653 Chapman Hwy. in Seymour
