Just down the road from Campbell County Cougar stadium in Lafollette the big sign read “Eagle Market.” It was ironic to see shortly after the Seymour Eagles football team had just taken care of business and defeated the Cougars 30-20 on their home field.
The improvement of this Seymour football team over last season was very evident. The offense was much more efficient and balanced than last year, the defense was more solid and the kicking game was tremendous thanks to J. J. Jerman who hit two key field goals over 40 yards each, as well as, all his PAT kicks. One field goal was a 47 yarder which put Seymour ahead for good. Jerman also kept the Cougars backed up on his booming punts.
“I’m glad he’s on our team,” said Seymour Head Coach Jim Moore when asked to comment on Jerman’s outstanding kicking. “That’s amazing to have a sophomore hit three of four field goals and all his PAT’s.”
If there was any question as to how the Eagles would respond to adversity, it was answered in this game as Seymour came from down 12-3 to winning by a ten point margin.... read the rest of the story by Subscribing now.
