At least 27 burglaries were solved with the arrest of a Maryville man following a search warrant at the man’s residence last week.
Blount County Sheriff James Lee Berrong said during the early morning hours of Aug. 8 agents with the Fifth Judicial Drug Task Force, along with the Sheriff’s Office SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) Team and the assistance of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team, took Tony Edwin McClurg, 35 of Maryville, into custody.
McClurg faces charges including several counts of theft of property, possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance (marijuana), simple possession of a Schedule III controlled substance (Hydrocodone), and possession of drug paraphernalia.
This case was initiated by a Blount County Sheriff’s Office patrolman who began investigating a series of burglaries in Blount County several weeks ago. His investigation led him to McClurg, who he discovered was taking in stolen property.
