With the number of Tennessee road fatalities increasing, local authorities are working hard to change the circumstances.

In an effort to increase road safety, Blount County Sheriff James Lee Berrong called for a saturation checkpoint Aug. 3.

The checkpoint was worked by six deputies from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. in Patrol Zone 4, which includes sites of recent Blount County driving fatalities such as south of Old Sevierville Rd. and east of Montvale Rd.

In the three fatalities in the area, none of the deceased were wearing seatbelts.
