12th District State Representative Richard Montgomery speaks with Seymour residents during his Meet and Greet event Monday. (The Herald/Joe Karl)
More than 150 Sevier County residents came out to support 12th District State Representative Richard Montgomery.
A Meet and Greet event was held Monday in Seymour to promote Montgomery’s reelection campaign.
Montgomery, who has served in the State Legislator for 14 years, will have his office challenged by fellow Republican Dale Carr in the upcoming State Primary Election.
During Monday’s three hour event, which was standing room only, Montgomery spoke with the well-wishers and supporter in attendance—who were made up of mainly Seymour residents.

Seymour is not Mr. Montgomery’s home town and this article states that in the title and article. He lives in Sevierville and has for a number of years!
Well let’s see, he’s 65 I think, and lived from birth till about 5 years ago in Seymour, so for 60 years. Graduated from Seymour High School, and spent his whole life there. He now lives up the road about 4 miles in the Boyd’s Creek community, which is still not the city of Sevierville. I don’t know how much more “home town” Seymour could get for him. And we’re lucky to have him.
The fact is, I’m looking and seeing it right now, born in Sevierville, lives in Sevierville, address is Sevierville for the last 9 years, not Boyd’s Creek. Fact, fact, and fact!!! I don’t know how much more wrong you could get! And we’re not lucky to have him. No matter how hard you wish the facts are the facts!!!
He lives about one mile from Boyd’s Creek school off of Indian Warpath. I would say that well qualifies as the community of Seymour. He has always lived it this community. I have known him and his family my entire life. Anybody pay any attention to where Carr is from or how long he has even lived in this County.
Mr. Carr was born and rasise in Sevierville, Dale’s parents are Edna moore carr and the late Bruce Bennie Carr. Me. carr grandparents were Rev. Joel and Eliza Carr, Zion Hill community and Mr. and Mrs. Luther and Martha Teague Moore, Gists creek community
I am Richard Montgomery’s daughter, so I thought I’d jump on here and clear up any confusion. My dad was born in Seymour and spent his childhood on Chilhowee School Road, a couple of houses down from Harrison Chilhowee Baptist Academy. His father, and later in life his sister, was the postmaster at the Seymour post office. After both of his parents passed away when he was a child, he spent his teenage years living on Huskey Drive, about a half mile from Seymour High School, which he attended as the first class to begin their freshman year and have all four years of school there. He has even helped plan and has attended the Seymour class reunions. After marriage he lived in Indian Heights subdivision for years, the first subdivision after getting on Boyd’s Creek in Seymour then in Monticello estates, a stone throw from the high school. These two houses are where I grew up. After retiring and me moving out, my parents found property near the river in the Boyd’s Creek community, a couple miles up the road, and moved there. The address is not Seymour, it is Sevierville, although it is not in the Sevierville city limits. Most people who live in that area consider themselves Seymour residents. Regardless, my dad is very proud to have been born and raised in Seymour and it is indeed his hometown. I’m sure both men grew up exactly where they say they did.
Maggie and Neighbor, I appreciate your factual comments, and Mr. Karl I appreciate your reporting of this exciting event. It was a really great evening!
Merriam Webster defines hometown as the city or place where one was born or grew up. I’d say spending the first 56 of his 65 years in Seymour proper would qualify it as his hometown.
So I am right, the address is Sevierville? Hometown is also defined as where the principal address is, and that address is Sevierville. Will you be able to vote for your dad? Do you live in his district or are you only involved for personal reasons?
As a Christian I wish your dad(RICHARD MONTGOMERY) didn’t take money from the Tennessee Liquor Retail Association. I see where they have given several thousand dollars and that is sad if he claims Seymour or Sevierville as his hometown.
You seemed to be hung up Richard Montgomery’s address. Seymour, Sevierville… they’re in the same county. Why is this so crucial?
Also, you’re claiming to be a Christian who is upset that he worked with the TLRA. Is alcohol banned from consumption via the bible? So in your opinion, anyone who consumes alcohol is NOT Christian? I sure hope you don’t feel that way.
Face it- you live in a town supported by TOURISM. If the tourists that support your infrastructure want to have a beer, you need to think long and hard before your closed-minded judging lands you in a place you don’t want to be.
No not really, I just expect the paper to have the facts straight. I simply expect Christians to behave as Christ did. To be Christ like. No one is perfect but if a member of your family got killed by a drunk driver you would feel as I do. I know where I am going do you? I am not judging, I am diaappointed that my representative goes after the christian vote and takes money from people that have a different goal in mind. Your the one whose open mindness might land you in a place you don’t want to be. Show me where Jesus ever drink liquor, wine, or beer in the bible! I will be praying for you!
The address is crucial because Seymour has the largest voting block in the county so obviously if the people thought Mongomary lived in Seymour they might be more willing to vote for someone they thought lived in the same community. Thanks for cleaning it up that Mr. Montgomery has worked and perhaps is still working with TLRA-TENNESSEE LIQUOR RETAILERS ASSOCIATION! SEYMOUR PEOPLE TAKE NOTE!!!! I HOPE WE DON’T END UP WITH LIQUOR AT KROGER AND PILOT IN SEYMOUR!
FACT! The article says Montgomery is a Seymour resident, if he is someone better tell the post office because I just checked with them and the address is SEVIERVILLE!!!!!! Come on people, get your facts atraight!
So I am correct the addressm is sevierville?I also see where it is defined as where the principal residence is, and that is why I could not figure out seymour as the hometown since the address is sevierville. Will you be voting for your dad? Do you live in his district or are you only involved because he is related?
When Jesus came along there is no indication that He changed or condemned any of these existing practices. In fact, he seems to have encouraged them. His first miracle was turning water into wine at the wedding feast at Cana (John 2:1-11). And again, the wine that these Jews would have been drinking was fermented, alcoholic wine – not grape juice. And then of course Jesus used wine when he celebrated passover with his apostles and instituted the Eucharist – wine being the object of consecration. Jesus actually humbles himself, taking on the form of wine, so that we can consume Him.
That being said ” Really ” I REALLY need a drink after reading your ramblings today
Alcohol is created by adding leaven (yeast) to grapes and then processing it at the right temperature, at the last supper Jesus was celebrating the feast of the Passover when all leaven/yeast is removed from Israel. Anyone eating bread with yeast or any other product that had yeast in it was “cut off from Israel”. Jesus was eating unleavened bread and drinking unleavened grape juice. Your assumption is seriously flawed!
I am shocked at the liberal comments, considering Richard is running on a conservative platform and more shocked that I checked and found out he is being strongly supported by the liquor industry! Thousands of dollars!!! Why would he be accepting their money? I will now be voting for Carr because as a Christian that is my responsibility to be silent no more! I am sick of these people that get elected and forget who elected them!!!!
