While cookouts, fishing, and gardening are on the top of the list for favorite summer activities in Seymour, the lack of a local pool makes swimming a difficult activity for many area residents.

Since incorporated Sevier County municipalities such as Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, and Gatlinburg all have public swimming pools, the absence of a pool in the unincorporated community of Seymour has all the more effect on its residents.

“I would like to see the county get a Recreation Department that would include a public pool for Seymour,” said Harold Pitner, Sevier County Commissioner for Seymour.

Although the idea of a county recreation department has been discussed in the past, its formation has never taken place.
