Diana Southard’s Jeep Grand Cherokee flipped over because she swerved to avoid an encroaching Malibu. (The Herald/ Joe King)
An accident that took place at approximately 8:45 a.m. on Chapman Hwy. near the cross street of Henry Haynes Rd. SW resulted in a rollover Tuesday morning.
According to State Trooper Kevin Smith, a Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling south in the right lane on Chapman when the driver, Diana Southard, swerved to avoid a Chevrolet Malibu which was in the left lane and began to merge into the right.

“I’m just thankful to be alive,” Southard said. “If I didn’t have my seatbelt on, I wouldn’t be alive.”
Southard and the driver of the Malibu were reportedly unharmed.

Corrections needed:
It was a Jeep Grand Cherokee not a Blazer.
The driver in the left lane DID come into my lane as reported by several witnesses. I clearly recall seeing her completely in the right lane when I hit the dirt.
(I tell you what… I am VERY thankful for the people who responded. The nurse & firemen who helped me out of the Jeep & made sure I was okay. And thank the Lord for looking out for me!!)
