Although grassroots movements are usually popular with many people in Sevier County, a local outreach group has created widespread distrust for many concerned citizens.
Stefanie Johnson, the coordinator for a group operating under the name Our Smokies, Our Future, said the aim of the organization is to “come together to make Sevier County the best place to live and visit.”
Yet, Pastor Rob Bremer, Chairman of the Sevier County Tea Party, and many others who have attended various meetings facilitated by Our Smokies, Our Future, have been off put by rhetoric and techniques used by the Johnson and other self-described volunteers.
Bremer, and other self-described concerned citizens, claim Our Smokies, Our Future is a local organization affiliated with the United Nations which is used to push a master plan to rezone much of the land in Sevier County, as well as a majority of all counties in the U.S., as restricted for human habitation.
