While weighing the benefits and challenges of incorporation is not an exact science, Sevier County’s most recently incorporated municipality has been pleased with the results thus far.

Pittman Center, once governed as a part of Gatlinburg, has been a city unto itself since 1974 and the mayor for the estimated 500 residents said the incorporation of the area is still met with an overwhelming positive response.

“Everybody who attended our city workshops said incorporation has been good for Pitman Center,” said Mayor Glen Cardwell.

As a municipality, Cardwell explained, Pitman Center now has a police department, trash service, and road maintenance service.
