After the accumulation of recent fundraising efforts, the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department held their monthly board meeting last week to discuss the allocation of the $12,800 raised.
“I think we can all agree Engine 9 is the first truck that should be considered for replacement,” said Fire Chief Kevin Nunn.
Other than being significantly older than the other fire trucks, another disadvantage attributed to Engine 9 at the meeting was its manual transmission. Some present at the meeting had insisted the manual truck had delayed the response time for certain fire fighters as they are only capable of driving a vehicle with an automatic transmission.
“There is nothing wrong with this truck other than it is older and it has a manual transmission,” said Ted Esch, Chairman of the SVFD Board. “Until recently it didn’t occur to anybody the transmission would be an issue.”
