While there is little to no actions that can prevent a natural disaster from occurring, Sevier County officials approved a plan to help prepare residents should harm ever befall the area.

At the May County Commission Meeting, members approved the development of a hazard mitigation plan to ease the destruction of possible flood damage.

The plan aims to improve post-disaster decision making, mitigation, and allows for larger State and Federal funds to be made available.

By working with TEMA (Tennessee Emergency Management Agency) and the Federal version FEMA, Sevier County will be eligible to receive up to a 75 percent reimbursement from FEMA for damages.
