State Senator Doug Overbey (R-Maryville) said Tuesday that he has been informed by the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) that a $20,250 grant has been approved for the Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge Airport.
The grant, which will be combined with a $2,250 local match, was recommended through the Department of Transportation’s Division of Aeronautics.
“Our airports are essential to pave the way for economic development of our county,” said Overbey. “This grant will assist in securing the appropriate infrastructure to better serve those who utilize it.”
Except for routine expenditures, grant applications are reviewed by the Tennessee Aeronautics Commission (TAC), which is a five member board charged with policy planning and with regulating changes in the state Airport System Plan.
