Lady Vol Chelsea Knotts and Vol Kevin Carney have been named to the 2012 Southeastern Conference Track & Field Community Service Team, the league announced Monday.

The league sponsors a Community Service Team for each of its 20 league-sponsored sports, looking to highlight male and female athletes from each school who give back to their communities through superior service efforts.

Knotts, is a senior from Ripley, W.Va., who last week received her degree in biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology. She will begin medical school in the fall at West Virginia University.

The middle distance runner has been active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, with projects including collecting toys for children; and she has participated in the SEC’s “Together We Can” food drive, and has been active in West Virginia’s Special Olympics. She also directed and organized the “Running with Hope 5K” to raise funds for Redeeming Hope Ministries,  and created a homeless running group through Redeeming Hope Ministries to foster community, commitment and goal setting. Additionally, she volunteered with Habitat for Humanity was a member of UT’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and organized a Thanksgiving dinner for the homeless.
