Students rehearse for the upcoming three-day performance of “Tom Sawyer” at SHS. (The Herald/Michele Karl)

Mark Twain’s classic novel “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” will be brought to life by the Seymour High School Choral Department on May 10, 11, and 12.

This musical performance of the novel is a Broadway adaptation and will contain songs composed by Don Schiltz.

The narrative of the musical will stick closely to the linage of Twain’s original and follow Sawyer throughout all of his well-known adventures.

Set in 1840 St. Petersburg, Missouri, the musical will focus on Sawyer’s conflict with his stern Aunt Polly, his quest for Becky Thatcher’s love, and a terrifying conflict with the novel’s villain, Injun Joe.
