The Seymour Volunteer Fire Department will launch its semi-annual “Roadblock” fundraising event May 5.
During the fundraiser members of the SVFD will position themselves at the intersection of Chapman Highway and Boyd’s Creek to collect donations from passing motorists.
Although the SVPD has other fundraising methods such as mail-delivery efforts, Fire Chief Kevin Nunn said the “roadblock” is the most effective means available for supporting the financial needs of the department.
“We typically raise between $9,000 and $11,000 per event, but I have seen as high as $14, 000,” he said. “It is strictly based on sheer traffic volume.
