The Tennessee Highway Patrol has announced a string of sobriety checkpoints for the month of May in Sevier County.

For the week of May 4 there will be a checkpoint at SR 139 Amanda LN. There is also a scheduled checkpoint at New Era Road during the week of May 6 and at Goose Gap Road for the week of May 13.

A release from the Highway Patrol stated the purpose of these checkpoints is to enforce the driver license law of Tennessee.

The Highway Patrol statement explained the department recognizes dangers presented to the public by unqualified drivers and stated Troopers will concentrate their efforts on vehicles being operated by drivers who violate the driver license laws.
