During last week’s Seymour Volunteer Fire Department Board Meeting Chairman Ted Esch announced his desire to eventually step down from the position.

“I’ve been the Board Chairman for 23 years and I’d be more than happy to let somebody else take over,” he said.

Esch explained that although the position of Chairman is an elected position, he doesn’t believe anybody should have to announce their candidacy. He said he would like anybody interested to be considered, but ultimately the Chairman should be decided by votes of the membership.

“I don’t try to influence anybody, but I think there needs to be a transition,” he said.
