Consistency is something soccer coach Drew Payne has been looking for with his group of Eagles since the beginning of the season.

Seymour (6-2 overall and 3-1 in district play) seems to have found a recent bout of “consistency” at a time in the season where most other high school students are given a weeklong mental lapse from spring break.

“I think it paid off,” Payne said of the mandatory practices. “We worked really hard this week. Spring break is a hard time to keep high school guys focused and keep them around.”

Payne’s efforts to practice and play games during spring break seem to have worked as planned. The Eagles played Sullivan South on Thursday night; a team who Payne says looked to be an “evenly matched” opponent. His players proved in 80 minutes that sometimes the eyes can be deceiving.
