Representative Richard Montgomery

Representative Richard Montgomery (R-Sevierville) has been named Chairman of the House Education Committee for the 107th General Assembly. He will also serve on the powerful House Commerce Committee, and the Calendar and Rules Committee.

“Governor-Elect Haslam has made it clear education is at the top of his agenda, and we will stay focused to ensure that the “Race to the Top” reforms we implemented last year are working,” said Representative Montgomery. “I am honored to have been named Chairman, and I look forward to making Tennessee schools even better.”

The House Education Committee deals with all bills relating to education in general. This includes schools (kindergarten through university level, curricula, and lunch programs); teachers, school employees, bus drivers and administrators (pay, benefits and retirement); vocational technical education; and adult education.

“The Commerce Committee will play an important role in the upcoming session to ensure that Tennessee maintains its reputation as a business and jobs-friendly state,” said Representative Montgomery.
