The Tony Farrace Dual Tournament was held Dec. 21 at Science Hill High School in Johnson City.
The Eagles proved themselves as a solid team placing third of eight teams next to Science Hill and Alcoa High School.
They defeated Happy Valley 58-18, John S. Battle 34-18, Science Hill Junior Varsity 40-33, and Abington 39-25. The team’s overall dual record is now 10-3.
Senior Trent Williams won four out of five matches at 145 lbs. all by pin, as did promising freshman Drew Cannon, the team’s heavyweight.
Senior Brandon Hawker, junior Chris Hinshaw, and freshmen Kevin Lambson and Ethan Joyce all won four of five matches. The whole team showed profound improvement from hard work.
“The team fought hard throughout the day,” said Coach Alex Cate. “We knew Science Hill was tough since they finished third in the state tournament last year.
“Our team rallied after that loss to beat a solid Abington, VA team. I’m proud of how hard they worked to beat Abington.
“It was great to see the freshman and sophomore guys turn it up a notch”.
