It has a new name and new look, but the same event will still attract thousands on race day.
Registration is open for the 10th Annual KARM Dragon Boat Festival, benefiting Knox Area Rescue Ministries. Formerly the Knoxville Dragon Boat Festival, the event will be held Saturday, June 23, 2012 at the Cove at Concord Park, and is limited to 60 teams.
Teams race for prizes, and raise money for hope and healing at Knox Area Rescue Ministries. Register online at www.knoxville.racedragonboats.com.
The event grows in popularity each year. Teams of 20 paddlers, a drummer and steerer race in authentic Hong Kong-style, 46-foot-long dragon boats.
All ages, skill levels and physiques can participate, making it the ultimate team building sport, requiring synchronicity and finesse, more than power to win.
The KARM Dragon Boat Festival showcases competitive community and corporate teams racing for title of Grand Champion.
In its 10th anniversary year, plans are underway to celebrate with more festivities.
Each team will get practice before race day, and then race in qualifying heats for the title of Grand Champion on June 23, 2012. More information is online at www.racedragonboats.com, or call 865-742-4306.
