A Sevier County man has been arrested in connection with a robbery of a local convenience store.
Michael E. Hopper, 34 of Sevierville, has been arrested for the robbery of the Dynamite Quick-Mart, 2093 Chapman Hwy.
On Dec. 2 at approximately 10 p.m. a man, suspected to be Hopper, walked into the Dynamite Quick-Mart and handed the clerk a note stating he was armed and demanded money from the register.
The clerk gave the man an undisclosed amount of money and the suspect fled on foot.
The robber was described as a 6-foot-tall, 200-to-220 pound man, wearing a UT sweatshirt, jeans, work boots and orange gloves. The suspect also covered his face with some type of material.
Officials from the Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation at the scene and gathered additional information.
Detectives then went to another market down the street and discovered that a few minutes prior to the robbery a man fitting the description of the robber had purchased a pair of orange gloves.
Officials then obtained a surveillance video of the suspect and of a blue and silver truck he drove away in.
On Dec. 5 Sheriff’s Deputy Todd Williams spotted a truck that matched the description sitting beside Chapman Hwy. in a parking lot.
Detectives were able to determine the owner of the truck, Hopper, and found incriminating evidence that led them to him.
Hopper was taken into custody on Dec. 5 on outstanding warrants and after being questioned about the robbery, he gave an incriminating statement.
Hopper has been charged with aggravated robbery in addition to the outstanding capias and violation of probation warrants.
