A Seymour man has been hospitalized after he shot his ex-wife, and then himself in the head.
The incident occurred during a domestic dispute at the home the two share.
According to Sevier County Sheriff Ron Seals, sheriff’s officers were dispatched to a home in the 1700 block of Dinkins Road at 9:39 p.m. Sunday after receiving a 911 call from the home.
Officers arrived on the scene and found the woman, Dorothy Blankenship, suffering from minor injuries she had received when her ex-husband, Teddy Blankenship, shot at her twice with a pistol, grazing her ears, after the pair was involved in a verbal altercation.
After shooting at his ex-wife, Teddy Blankenship, according to Dorothy Blankenship, then went into another room where he shot himself in the temple with the same .22 caliber revolver.
Officers found him lying face down on a mattress in a rear bedroom. He was then transported to U.T. Hospital via Lifestar Helicopter where he is being treated at this time.
The shooting is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and charges are pending until the conclusion of the investigation.
